Camping!

I was not looking forward to this "first" in Banjo's life.  Camping isn't my favorite summer activity, which makes complete sense as I am not a fan of mosquitos, sleeping on the ground, keeping food in a cooler, smoke, dirt or hot dogs.  (Ask my mom...I absolutely loathe hot dogs).

A group of our friends were planning a camping trip and promised that it was "easy" camping.  Free (hot) showers were dangled in front of my nose.  I was willing to give it a try.

Banjo had a great time, her daddy had a great time, and --I will admit it-- I had a great time too.  The families teamed up to provide meals over the 2 days we were at Ft. Stevens, which went a long way in keeping the experience nice.  Our first evening there (after the tent was erected and the fire was started and the bug spray was applied) we actually ordered pizza and it was delivered to our campsite!  Now THAT'S my kind of camping!

I was most stressed about the fire pit and the perpetual danger of a free roaming toddler close by.  I pointed out the fire to Banjo and very seriously told her "That's the fire.  HOT.  No no.  Don't touch the fire" and I am pleased to report that she got my message loud and clear.  Luckily she isn't into boundary testing quite yet.  She kept busy following the 'big' kids (and by big I mean 2 year olds) around, coloring with crayons, climbing on the tricycles and taking toys away from the baby (6 months).  She got to borrow a bike helmet and go for a ride with her daddy, and she also had a few hours at the beach.

The napping issue was another of my fears.  She took one per day, as opposed to her usual 2.  She wasn't terribly cranky though.  By the 2nd night she was probably overtired and she cried a lot after bedtime.  I ended up leaving the grown-up card game and falling asleep in the tent with her.

A good view of the bump.  She fell off her camp chair.

She walked straight towards the water at every opportunity.  Kept me very busy!
